3 Sentence Ficathon Part 2!!!

THREE SENTENCE FICATHON IS NOW CLOSED.  REALLY.  REALLY AND TRULY OVER.  RIGHT NOW.  UNTIL NEXT YEAR.  REALLY.  GO FORTH AND WRITE MORE FIC WITHOUT LIMITING IT TO 3 (OK SOMETIMES MORE) SENTENCES!  FREE THE PLOT BUNNIES!  WRITE EPIC SUSAN/MAGLOR!  EXPRESS YOUR RICHARD III FEELS IN HAIKU!  REMEMBER IT'S ALWAYS BETTER WITH DRAGONS!  OR BACCHUS!  TELL US ABOUT CASSANDRA AND PENELOPE, CLEOPATRA AND CLYTEMNESTRA!  IN FIC!

I'm not going to close the post to comments because already filled-prompts deserve love and attention.  If someone wanders in and fills a prompt or offers a new one, that's cool and I'm not going to go all stompy boots.  This has been awesome and my thanks to all of you for a great exchange.  I'll certainly host this again next year!

3 Sentence Ficathon Banner

Wow.  Well, the votes are in and after almost 5,000 prompts, fills and comments, I decided to start a new post that will carry us through the conclusion of the 3 Sentence Ficathon which will conclude on April 7, 2013.

We have lots and lots of unfilled prompts still.  So, if you posted or saw a prompt you really would love to see filled, please post again here in the new thread and hopefully someone will give you an awesome fill!   Please continue to commented upon filled prompts and thank authors, but all new prompts and fills should come  here.

My thanks to everyone for the incredible participation.  Interest has flagged the last couple of days and I'm not sure if it's just that 4900 comments and 49 pages is just too daunting or if everyone has run out of ideas.  With a new thread, maybe this will make it easier for people to navigate it again, or maybe everyone is off on Spring Break!

To recap:

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This all started with the lovely CaramelSilver (Banner courtesy of CaramelSilver and thanks so much!).  This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do?
You post prompts!  When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character/pairing, prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish.  If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again!  Multiple fills of the same prompt allowed.

I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem.  You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes!  Please pimp this to your flist, I'd like as many as possible to come and participate!

I'm cross-posting to LJ but we will keep all prompts and fills here, so they are in one awesome place (and with less spam).

Here's a link for spreading the word to all your friends and comms (thanks [personal profile] snacky !)

And thanks to Metonomia for the spiffy icon!

How long can it go?
The 2013 3 Sentence Ficathon will close on Sunday, April 7, 2013.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?

Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want.  Last year, a lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag.

[personal profile] lady_songsmith has reactivated the archive on delicious for this challenge, https://previous.delicious.com/3sentence She asks that if anyone would be willing to help knock down the backlog of the prolific-ness thus far, let her know!!  (She adds:  I know folks are kinda down on delicious with the changes, but, hey, it's an archive already set up with useful tags!)

Gosh who are all these people writing such great prompts and fills?
Good question!  Come to the friending meme and introduce yourself if you like.

On the subject of archiving, I really encourage people to collect and post their fills elsewhere.  That way, we can find your work more easily again, redundancy is always good and it's really useful for future remixes and other challenges and gift exchanges you might participate in. I'll start a linking post so that if you do collect all your fills and post them on your own blog or an archive like AO3, you can give give us the link in comments.

Yeah there's no way this is fitting into three sentences.

In later years, Jill wonders whether Aslan had known what would happen by letting a dead man step from His country to a little English school yard. Had the Lion known that Caspian would slit his finger upon the blade of his sword to test the sharpness, or that his blood would fall upon the welts left upon bare arms? Had he known that the contamination of death would rot the children inside out to turn them into living corpses?

Had he known that it would be the beginning of the end?

Jill huddles over the portable stove in the shell of an abandoned church by night and watches Eustace study the map by the dim glow of the candle flame. "My cousins will fix this," he tells her, plotting their route through the countryside in an attempt to avoid civilization - that's where the undead are most plentiful - and she wonders about that, too. The great and legendary Pevensies may have the Lion's approval but what can that do for them now?

How awesome! It's been a long time since I've read of Narnia and the Zombie Apocalypse. :-)

Also... are the Kings and Queens zombie hunters? Because you know, that would be SO NEAT.

Why am I writing this again?

None of it would have happened if he'd obeyed Aslan and gone peacefully to the afterlife, grateful for that one glimpse of England, but he hadn't, and it had, and he'd nicked his finger in his exuberance (how could he be so careless, and after sixty years?)—and that was the beginning of the end. He himself, the carrier, was the last of the first wave to go, and so he knew what was coming, knew what was happening to him as his brain slowly turned to soup, knew the whole downfall of civilization (from him to Them to the Head to the Parliament-council to the nobles, to their servants, until—until—there'd been something else, something about the continent and somewhere called America, but it was fading) was his own damned fault.

Just hang on, they said daily—then hourly—Eustace will find something, just hang on, and she visited him, her small hands warm and living on his arm, but it all was going blurry . . . he knew he would never be able to hang on long enough and he had no right to pray to the Lion now but dear Aslan what if he hurt one of them . . . they were important, somehow, in his old world and here . . . what if he he hurt her, he must not hurt her . . . and with his last fading wisps of sanity he clung to one image—one thought—one word—Lucy.

IDEK

[personal profile] starbrow 2013-03-27 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
If I only had my cordial, she thought hourly, inanely, inadequately, as if wishing could somehow help the disintegrating shells of humanity around her become whole again, but she had no medicine that could possibly fix this (oh Eustace, please hurry, hurry!) and so she did what she could, what little she could. When she went to sit with the husk of the boy-King whose dead eyes (they once were the color of the Eastern Sea) dogged her every movement, she was not afraid that he would try to eat her, and took his hand and sang to him of Narnia and the Old Days and the days ahead of them, good days, golden days, when they would find the cure and live happily ever after. When she left, she tied the bandage around her arm a little tighter and held off the madness for one more day.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

Re: IDEK

[personal profile] buttonloops 2013-03-27 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
After a long time a ghost of a thought wanders through him, and he realizes dimly that the last thread of his sanity snapped a long time ago, but that's all right because there is a warm hand on his and oh, she smells so warm and alive and happy and he would give anything to feel that again, to feel anything again, but something holds him back, and then her hand is gone and he wants to weep but the air is drowsy and sweet and it will all be all right and he lets go and sleeps.

-

"Where have you taken him?" she demands, pushing her hair out of her eyes and leaving a streak of blood on her forehead; she wonders for half a second if she's really the sane one, after all, but the Cat is sitting there, implacable, smug, and where was he before, when they needed him so desperately?

"I have sent them all to the Wood, where they may rest and be healed, for the waters of that place have virtue, and though the way lies painful and hard before them, yet with perseverance and prayers for their souls all shall meet again beyond the grave, and in their own minds once more—"

"No," she says, and rips the tourniquet from her arm so that the feeling burns into her arm again as she steps forward, eyes dry, to say, "Take me, I go with him."

One drop of blood, welling brightly from a papercut caused by the edge of a stubborn supply box (so fragile, human skin); one drop of red passed from her to him unnoticed against the daily struggle to hold on against the creeping abyss slithering through her brain (and oh, she has seen brains before, spattered on battlefields, but never so much appreciated how delicate they are).

One drop, and in the morning there is light in the eyes, flickering like the sun off waves, and when she speaks they track her and his mouth turns up in a smile, and he tries to speak.

One drop for every person dying of this lion-sent plague, one drop to heal them, and Lucy has never understood before what cutting out your heart meant but now she does, she does, and she bleeds and bleeds and bleeds.

I'M SORRY

[personal profile] metonomia 2013-03-27 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
This is not what I prayed for. It's become Susan's new mantra - she refuses to call any of her thoughts prayer anymore - as if her thoughts have ever mattered, as if her desires have ever been granted without punishment and pain.

Her entire family shuffles after her, broken on the rails, reaching out for her to join them.

Re: I'M SORRY

[personal profile] vialethe 2013-03-27 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
This entire thread is just too much, swinging from comedy to romance to complete heartbreak. Poor, poor Susan, it's always left to her to be the caretaker of the family, the practical one who dreams and dreams and does what she must and gets screwed over anyhow. Of course this would persist even after they're all dead.
